Early literacy

early literacy project

The goal of the Fairfax Community Library Early Literacy Project is to create young readers through early literacy materials and activities. The project also aims to support all families with preschool aged children by offering early literacy materials, themed activities, and suggested educational strategies to support learning.

In addition, elementary aged children at the BFA Fairfax Elementary School regularly receive free books through this project.

Funding and support for this project is provided by caring contributions from the local non-profit, A Generous Heart.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
"The concept is simple; the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. The 1000 Books Foundation provides useful information and resources to parents and caregivers and enables libraries, schools, churches, and other non-profit entities to host 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenges in their local community."

Find instructions, reading log sheets, certificates of completion, reading lists, and more on the program's resources page.
