Behind the Theme, “Unearth a Story”

From the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP):
“[T]his theme in a way…invites layered interpretation.
Whether readers are digging into a good book,
uncovering hidden histories, or exploring the past,
the slogan underscores the joy of discovery that reading brings.
It also emphasizes that every person and every community
has stories waiting to be found and shared—
through books, programs, and local knowledge.”

Kick-Off

Saturday, June 20, starting at 11 a.m.: Join the Library for a Dinosaur Dance! We’ll have games, crafts, snacks, and maybe see a live dinosaur…!

Dinosaurs, paleontologists, archaeologists, builders, gardeners are all welcome (come in Unearth a Story-themed costume if you want to)!

Participation

Kids (ages 0-17) can track their reading on a reading log provided by the Library: 20 minutes of reading merits 1 sticker. Once kids read 0 minutes or 6 stickers, they can bring their reading log to the Library to claim a small prize and submit a raffle ticket for the grand prize drawing at the end of the summer. Please register!

Adults (ages 18+) can pick up a bingo sheet from the Library with a variety of reading-themed challenges. Each time you complete a “BINGO” (row, column, or diagonal of 5 challenges), you can bring your sheet to the Library for a small prize and a raffle ticket for the grand prize. Please register!

Programs

You do not have to be singed up for the summer reading program to participate in library activities like Crafternoons, but if you want to win prizes for reading, make sure to sign up, and grab a reading log from us!

Reading Dragons & Friends

We’re also continuing Reading Dragons this year with an all new, even bigger deck of cards you can collect. The more time you spend reading the more cards you can add to your deck, and the more powerful you can make them!
