The Fairfax Community Library (FCL) is part of the Homecard Library System (or “Homecard”), a cooperative lending program of 29 libraries in northwestern Vermont. Homecard allows you, with a FCL account in good standing, to use many local libraries with your card to check out materials.
When you visit Homecard libraries, please have your current FCL card and an ID with you. Please return items to the library from which you borrowed them.
The rules of each lending library you visit will apply.
Interlibrary loan requests should be made through, picked up at, and returned to your home library.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will items I check out at another library show up on my FCL Account?
The Library does not share catalog systems with other Homecard libraries, so your FCL account will only reflect items you borrow from FCL.
Each Homecard library you visit will create an account for you as a Homecard patron through their respective catalog system. In cases where Homecard libraries share catalog systems, you will have one account.
Can I check out Library of Things or nontraditional items or use digital resources from another Homecard library?
Each library in the system sets their own limits for what Homecard users can access. Usually you will not have access to digital resources, and limited access to new or special collections.
If FCL’s catalog is separate from other Homecard libraries’ catalogs, how do I see what’s available at other libraries?
- Search each Homecard library’s catalog through their respective website to see what’s in their collection.
- Visit each library in person and browse.
- Call the Homecard library of interest.
How do I place a hold at another Homecard library?
- Call the Homecard library of interest and ask them to place a hold.
How do I renew items from another library online?
If the Homecard library has issued you an account in their catalog system and granted you log-in access, you can renew items you’ve borrowed there online.
Otherwise, you’ll need to contact the Homecard library to request a renewal.
