To Create an Account & Begin Borrowing

All patrons need to bring photo ID, such as a license, and a piece of mail with your physical address. If your mailing address differs, the Library will need to know at the time of creating an account.

Patron Types

Community

Accounts for residents of Fairfax, paid for through annual taxes.

BFA-Fairfax Students

Starting in Pre-K, students at BFA-Fairfax have accounts for the duration of their enrollment in the school. Upon enrolling in a different school or graduating, former students need to create a new account corresponding to their town of residence.

Non-Residents

Accounts are $20 per year for patrons who live outside Fairfax.

Exception: If you are 65 years or older, the Library waives the non-resident fee.

Homecard

If you live in a town whose library participates in the Homecard Library System and have a corresponding library account in good standing, you may create a free Homecard account here at the Fairfax Community Library with your your home town library card.

Code of Conduct

The Library follows a Code of Conduct to ensure all patrons have a safe, enjoyable experience.

Patrons will show mutual respect for everyone and everything in the Library.

Behavior which interferes with the Library’s mission or is hazardous to self or others is unacceptable, and patrons not complying with the Library’s Code of Conduct will be asked to leave.

Overdues

The Library does not assess fines for overdue items.

Patrons with overdues

Once overdue items are returned or lost, irreparably damaged, or stolen items are reimbursed, patrons’ accounts are returned to good standing.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Library card expires?
The expiration date is how we check-in with patrons to make sure we have up-to-date contact information.

How old does my child have to be to have their own account?
Children who are 12 years and older can have their own community patron account. This would be separate from their school account, if they are a student at BFA-Fairfax.

Do I have to be a Library patron to attend programs?
No. You are welcome to attend Library programs even if you aren’t a patron or if you are a patron at another library.
