According to the State of Vermont, “The Internal Revenue Service [(IRS)]
has announced that the opening day for 2025 tax year Income Tax returns
is Monday, January 26, 2026. The IRS and the Vermont Department of Taxes will begin processing returns on that date.”

“AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low to moderate income. You don’t need to be an AARP member to use the service.”
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) by CVOEO
“Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation services to low-to-moderate income Vermonters. We assist individuals and families in filing Federal and State income tax returns, Vermont Renters Credits, and Homestead Declarations/Property Tax Credits. We work closely with our dedicated group of volunteers to provide assistance to over 2,000 CVOEO clients. Our program runs from February 1 through Tax Day, after which we offer year round tax support on a more limited basis.”
